Did you know that in under seven minutes, thieves pulled off one of the boldest daylight heists in history—stealing priceless French crown jewels from the Louvre?

On October 19, 2025, at around 9:30 a.m., four masked individuals used a truck-mounted basket lift to access a second-floor window of the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery.

They forced their way in with angle grinders and smashed two high-security display cases.

Inside, they grabbed eight items of Napoleonic-era jewelry—tiaras, necklaces, earrings, brooches—linked to Empress Eugénie, Empress Marie‑Louise, Queen Marie‑Amélie, and Queen Hortense.

During their escape on motorbikes, they dropped Empress Eugénie’s diamond-and-emerald crown, which was later recovered damaged.

No one was injured.

The museum was evacuated, closed the next day, and visitors were refunded.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the theft as “an attack on a heritage that we cherish,” vowing to recover the items and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Authorities have launched an investigation, assigning around 60 detectives to the case, reviewing CCTV footage, and collecting forensic evidence.

The heist has sparked urgent calls to reassess security at France’s cultural institutions.

A meticulously planned operation, executed in minutes, that exposed vulnerabilities in one of the world’s most secure museums—and now the race is on to recover these irreplaceable symbols of French heritage.
